I have the honour to inform you that Mr.

T. K. Dealy will retire from the service in July, and I have had under consideration the question of filling the post of Headmaster of Queen's College which will become vacant.

2.

The senior Officer in the Education

Department is Mr. E. Ralphs, who joined the service on the 23rd. March, 1898. He would be suitable for the post of Head- -master but as he is already in receipt of a salary of £800

a year as Inspector of English Schools, and the salary of the Headmaster is only £600 rising to £720, I do not put bis name forward.

3.

The next Officer in order of seniority is Mr. Bertram Tanner, who has been connected with Queen's College since his appointment as Junior Assistant Master in 1900. He became Senior Assistant Master in October, 1901, and in your Despatch No. 282 of the 13th. December last you approved of his appointment to be Second Master on a salary of £600 a year. He has for some years past done useful work as Normal Master and in connection with the Technical Institute. He is possessed of tact and ability and I recommend him for the post of Headmaster. If appointed he will have to give up his work at the Technical Institute, for which he

receives

RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, M.P.
